While Public Hospitals see cutbacks, Big business eyes up healthcare

Not a week after a massive private healthcare conference in Dublin www.privatehealth.ie, and a series of cutbacks in Sligo, Mayo, Connolly Hospital and Cherry Orchard Hospital, the Sunday Business Post will host their annual Healthcare Summit.

Health Summit: Big Business & Healthcare

The conference sponsored by noted healthcare bodies such as computer giant IBM, A&L Goodbody and Eircom. It is then no surprise that the conference speakers are a litany of Private Healthcare CEOs, Pharmaceutical Corporation personnel with a trade union bureaucrat from ICTU thrown in for good measure.

Talks include a session “Competition Law meets Healthcare: Do we want Healthy Competition or Competitive Health?” given by Dr Vincent Power, Partner, A&L Goodbody.

If people were ever in doubt about the intentions of this government and their big business backers with regard to healthcare the events of the past month will have made things clear.

The Lisbon Treaty will speed up this process of privatisation and competition in the healthcare ‘market’. This is why it is vital that we reject this Treaty.
